Looking at those pictures of Orla Kiely's home reminded me of how much I love tulips. I find their clean, simple shape most pleasing indeed! I like them best when the flowers are uniform in colour, whether all white or vivid crimson or even deep purple. I guess they appeal to my desire for order and simplicity in a world gone mad!!
Seeing as I'm finding my gardening mojo these days and it's bulb planting time down under, I thought I'd try my hand at growing containers of tulips this year. I remember seeing pictures of trash cans (you know like the ones the grouch lived in in Sesame Street?) full to overflowing with mutli coloured tulips in a gardening magazine once, so I'm going to try and recreate something similar. I've found a website based here in nz that sells 55 different types of tulips online (nzbulbs.co.nz) so I think I should be able to find a few varieities I like!! Hopefully next Spring I'll be sharing photos proudly displaying the fruits (or more correctly, the flowers) of my labour!!!
PS Turns out Tulips have rather glamorous sounding names (who'd have thought?). Here are the ones I think I'll be ordering:
